Burbank mountaineer conquers the Seven SummitsBY MARIO AGUIRRE, 10/19/2007 He`s skied the North and South poles, conquered the Seven Summits and planted the flags of the United States and Armenia atop Mount Everest. Now, 47-year-old adventurer Karo Ovasapyan has set his sights on Greenland, where he hopes to make a 285-mile cross-country skiing trek across the icy landscape of the world`s biggest island. 2th October at 16:00 Boris Korshunov has climbed Cho Oyu at the age of 72 (born 31.08.1935). He started from tha camp 2 (7100 m) at 9 a.m. intending to overnight in the camp 3 (7500m). At 12 a.m. he reached the place of camp 3 but could not find his tent. Then the russian veteran-climber decided to go to the summit the same day. 1st July 9:30am - Ian Mckeever is now the proud record holder of the World Speed Record for the 7 Summits. The team summited Denali yesterday (30th June) to complete the challenge in a total of 156 days, knocking an incredible 31 days off the old record. Summiting alongside Ian was Dave Pritt, Director of Adventure Peaks, who was also completing his 7 Summits. A huge well done to Ian who only started climbing last year but has now proven himself on some of the worlds biggest mountains. China on Wednesday confirmed the construction of a 110-km-long metalled highway in Tibet to Mt Everest in an attempt to provide an additional bonanza to the world at the time of the Olympics. The move has sparked off howls of protests from environmentalists while in New Delhi there has been muted anxiety over security issues. The highway is being laid on the Tibet side. It will involve leveling an unpaved track and could take about four months. Chinese authorities on Wednesday said it will press ahead with the construction despite concerns from environmentalists. 4 April 2007 Ervand Iljinsky, the famous coach of the National Kazakhstan team, has completed "7 summits" program - he has just returned from Australia, where he climbed Kosciuszko peak. Sydney teen Chris Harris can`t wait to become the youngest person to scale Mount Everest.Chris, still eight months shy of his 16th birthday, will begin the difficult and dangerous climb next month.
